Season at a Glance

Choosing the five shows for the upcoming season is the most exciting task of the year in the production office. Much deliberation, angst, and enthusiasm contributes to the process.

Usually we review dozens of scripts and scores to find the right combination of shows that compliment each other for a perfect season. This year we took a new approach and asked a number of directors to pitch ideas to us – either a favorite show of theirs or merely one they have been anxious to work. After meeting with approximately 25 directors, each with some really terrific ideas, we have arrived at a truly remarkable season. This year we celebrate the director. - William Osetek, Drury Lane Artistic Director

2010-2011 Season - The Year of the Director
  • "RAGTIME, The Musical"
    March 18, 2010 - May 23, 2010
    Directed by: Rachel Rockwell

When Rachel Rockwell came to us with her concept of how she would direct our production of "Miss Saigon", we were blown away. She provided a unique, maternal approach to what is most definitely a woman's story.

At that time, it was the biggest show we had ever produced, and we could not have been more impressed with her work (as well as the 5 nominations from the Jeff awards her production garnered). A true master of epic productions, it was clear when she pitched "Ragtime" to us that she would be the perfect person for the job.

  • "SUGAR"
Based on the movie Some Like It Hot

    June 3, 2010 - August 1, 2010
    Directed by: Jim Corti

From the complexity of Jim Corti's award winning, multi-faceted production of “Sweet Charity” to the clarity and simplicity he brought to “Meet Me in St. Louis”, Jim is an artist of the ages. Both of those shows garnered Jeff Award nominations for Jim, resulting in his winning the award for Best Director for “Sweet Charity”. In addition, the critical and popular response to his recent production of “Cabaret” was staggering. “Sugar” is the latest treasure from the musical theatre archives that will reap the benefits of the Jim Corti “magic.”
